The PPP FKEY - For easy Opening & Closing (Hard Closing) of your FreePPP/MacPPP connections.
As far as I know, this FKEY and Installer will work with all Macs running at least System 6.0.8 or later, providing you have all your PPP settings worked out correctly, etc.. If you encounter a problem, I'd like to hear about it. (I do not provide support for setting up your PPP settings; however, you'll have to talk to your service or those you know for help on those topics.)
Fixed in v1.0.2:
Recent versions of FreePPP/MacPPP caused the FKEY to be unable to Close PPP connections. That problem has been resolved in this release.
Installing Your FKEY
The PPP FKEY comes with its own installer. To install the FKEY, first launch the installer, then select a number to trigger the FKEY. Click the Install button. That's it.
Alternatively, the installer will also let you Remove any FKEY's you no longer want, and you can Swap your FKEY's around if you want to reorder them. Just select an FKEY, then choose Remove or Swap. The Installer will confirm your selection and Remove the FKEY if you choose Remove, or it will ask you which FKEY number you want to swap with when you choose Swap, then Swap those FKEY numbers. (Example: You have an FKEY in the #9 slot, but you'd like to switch it to the #8 slot. Click the button next to FKEY #9 and select Swap. Enter the number 8 in the dialog that comes up. Click the Swap button in that dialog. Abra-cadabra. The contents of those positions are swapped.)
Note: If you reinstall your System file, you must also reinstall your FKEY's, since they are installed in the System file.
System FKEYs
The System uses 2 FKEY's that are stored in your Mac's ROM chip. FKEY #1 Ejects a disk from your internal drive. FKEY #2 Ejects a disk from an external drive. You can override either or both of those FKEY's by placing another FKEY in the #1 or #2 slot.
FKEY #3 is the Screen Snapshot FKEY, which is also included in your operating System, but stored in the System file, rather than in ROM. You can remove or replace this FKEY if you like, as well. (Why anyone would, I don't know...)
Apple reserves FKEYs #0 and #4 for future use. You can still use this slot, if you want to use it. You can always worry about it later, if Apple actually decides to put one there.
Note: If you have an ImageWriter printer, FKEY #4 will send the active window to your printer, or if CAPS LOCK is on, it will send the entire screen.
How To Trigger An FKEY
Once installed, an FKEY can be triggered by pressing and holding the shift key and the command key (□), then pressing the number you selected for the FKEY (i.e. <shift> <command> <9> if you chose the number 9). (Note: At least on my Mac, FKEY's cannot be triggered using the numbers on the numeric keypad. The System treats those differently than the standard number keys and doesn't call the FKEY. I assume this will also be true for you.)

Remove the FKEY currently saved in the resource file and replace it with your own FKEY. The user item id numbers and control id numbers used in the installer dialog must remain constant. The installer expects the Macnexus logo 'PICT' to be the last item number. That's it.
